Vintage crossover ring. Natural rubies, diamonds and 14k gold. Made circa 1950-60's.
Independent appraisal.

Measurements: Weight is 9.9 grams. US size 7. 7.86ct rubies; 1.39ct diamonds.

Description : Large crossover ring. Strong design utilising shape, size and color to best advantage. Widest at the rounded ends. Gold mount with border of old cut diamonds containing a broad band of tightly set, oval rubies. The sturdy, rounded, gold shank (hoop) follows the lines of the gems - narrower on the outer bands and wider in the center. Indented slightly where the bands meet. Partially open backs allow light to enter from behind the rubies, which is what gives them their particular gleam. The color of the pinkish red rubies bordered by the clear, silvery diamonds is very effective, but increasingly impressive thanks to the glisten and gleam of the gems, which refract and reflect light beautifully. The crossover design doubles the effect of the ruby and diamond bands. Combined with the large size of the ring - it comes pretty close to the knuckle on most hands, this is a real show-stopper.

Marks and Metal: there are 3 hallmarks inside the shank/hoop of the ring. Two presumably relate to the maker (unknown to us). One of these is a chevron - series of concentric 'v's. The 3rd mark is 585, which means 14k gold.

Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.

THE STORY: Most big and impressive rings are high on the finger. This ring, is sleek and fairly flat, which feels particularly rich and luxurious. As mentioned, the color combination of the fabulous rubies and diamonds attracts the eye as does the effect of the bands.
Who wore this ring before us? Made about 3/4 of a century ago, the ring is both modern and timeless. It will always impress and give enjoyment to the new generation of owners.
