Description : Frog shaped brooch. 18k yellow gold with a mass of bright green demantoid garnets around a central line of pave set diamonds. Eyes are tiny rubies. Borders surrounding gems are beaded gold. Hands and feet are modelled in gold. C-clasp. Frogs are amazingly popular in jewelry and very difficult to find. Demantoid garnets are considered more valuable than diamonds. The best demantoids were mined in the Urals of Russia late 19th century and they are associated with Art Nouveau jewelry of this period. This particular little jewel was made in France.
Marks: Mark on 'C' clasp is owl - French mark for 18k gold of unknown origin. Gold was also acid tested to ensure metal purity. Mark on pin is illegible.
