Antique Victorian demi parure necklace and earrings set. 15ct yellow gold set with amethysts. Made in England circa 1850 - 1860.

Measurements: Earrings weigh 9.2 grams and measure over 2 inches in length. Necklace: longer necklace 17inches long; shorter riviere is 14 3/4 inches long. Necklace weighs 85.3 grams. Total amethyst weight 180.32ct.

Description : Height of classic elegance and understated beauty. The set consists of a rare double riviere - two co-joined necklaces and a pair of long, day - night or top - drop long dangling earrings. Each link of the two parts of the necklace that falls beautifully at the nape of the neck, is composed of a flat-topped, gently faceted amethyst, all well matched, set in a decorative collete within a gold outer frame at right angles to the stone. Gradation with largest stones in the center and the largest of all being a drop in the front center. Tongue in groove clasp. Small gold loops connect amethyst stations. Earrings can be worn with tops and drops together or the smaller tops alone by day. They are inserted into the ear from the back, which is how Victorian earrings were made. The top wires thread through a gold loop that suspends a triple chain from which an elongated pear-shaped amethyst drop, mounted as the links of the necklace, is suspended. The chains cause the drops to swing and sway as the wearer moves. > The ultimate in quiet elegance, this set could easily be worn by a queen. The workmanship is very strong and sturdy and beautifully done.

Marks: No marks, typical of Victorian jewelry. We acid tested gold as at least 14k.

Condition: Excellent with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer. Independantly appraised for $30000.00
