Vintage turbo shell earrings ear clips. Natural shells and 14k gold with sapphire, ruby and emerald gems. Most likely made mid to late 1900's.

Measurements: Weight is 20.0 grams.

Description : The use of natural shells fascinated many jewelry designers since time immemorial. While nature cannot be improved upon, the clever use of gold mounts with small gem accents has made these Turbo Shell earrings an ongoing rage for decades and women are still looking for vintage or estate examples.
This pair is very classic: beautiful mother of pearl nacre to the twisting shells with a glowing sheen. The gold and gems settings conform to the shape of the shells, accentuating the twists and turns. The emerald, ruby and sapphires are not only the most valuable of gems, but also represent the 3 primary colors, matching these earclips with any and every item of clothing as well as any and every complexion. The gold stations are like little sea anemones.
Chic and elegant, a classic for your collection.
Lovely iridescence to the nacre which reflects and glows in the surrounding colors of the gems.

Marks and Metal: Both earrings are signed MAZ and 14k.

Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.

THE STORY: A number of highly regarded jewelry companies in the USA produced these ear clips from the 1940's until today. Most notably, along with MAZ were Seaman Schepps and Verdura. This pair of earclips is particularly attracive, for the swirling nautilus shape to the great patina and iridescence of the mother of pearl shells. The gold and gem adornment accentuates the shell shape.
