GIULIANO Antique Victorian Cross Pendant 18k Gold Sapphires Citrines (6771)

Antique Victorian Renaissance Revival cross pendant. 18k yellow gold, citrines and sapphires. Made in England, circa 1895 - 1914 by Carlo and Arthur Giuliano.

Measurements: Weight is 3.9 grams. Not including the bale, the length is a little over an inch (2.8cm). With bale, length is approximately 1 3/8 inches (3.8cm).

Description : Cross pendant with all arms of equal length. Set in yellow gold to show off golden orange citrines to their best glowing effect. Each arm of the cross with golden crown terminals. In the angle between the arms are deep blue cabochon sapphires. Large, fleur de lis bale, typical of Giuliano jewelry. Contrast between the glowing citrines and the sapphires of Kashmir blue draws the eye. Crown terminals give a royal and softening finish to this very solid design. Beautiful workmanship and design, as is to be expected from one of the most esteemed jewellers of the time, who included the Royal family of Queen Victoria amongst their customers. Carlo and then his sons, Carlo & Arthur Giuliano were famous for their Renaissance Revival jewelry during the last quarter of the 19th century. The large bale of this cross will allow for a large chain or ribbon, which is how jewelry was worn during the Renaissance era. The solid lines and coloring of the pendant also echo back to the Renaissance era, as does the religious Christian theme.

Marks and Metal: C&AG mark for Carlo and Arthur Giuliano inside the bale. Gold was acid tested to ensure metal purity.

Condition: Good with surface wear commensurate with age. One citrine has a minute chip on the back, mentioned for the sake of accuracy. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
