Georgian Regency Giardinetto Brooch Gold Silver Pearls Turquoise and Gems (6903)
Georgian Regency Giardinetto Brooch Gold Silver Pearls Turquoise and Gems (6903)
Measurements: Weight is 4.4 grams. A little over 1 inch (approx 2.25cm) tall.
Description : A small brooch in the form of a basket of flowers. The basket weave is partially silver with gold bands and gold detail. The upper rim of the basket is bordered with small natural pearls. It is brimming over with flowers and foliage - as though someone walked through the fields and picked a variety of wild flowers. Flowers are subtly shaped in different ways and each one is composed of different gems - turquoise, amethyst, garnets, citrine and an emerald forms a leaf falling down alongside the basket's right hand side.
There is a saying that good things come in small packages and this wonderful little brooch proves the proverb. It is beautifully made, whimsical and colorful with a lot of interest and detail. It is highly 3-dimentional, with the eye travelling deeper into the floral recess and then back out to the front of the basket. A true delight.
The brooch was bought in a Harvey & Gore box, which we do not believe to be original to the piece.
Marks and Metal: No marks as is to be expected of English jewelry of this age. Gold was acid tested and stays for at least 14ct. Pearls have not been tested, but are believed to be natural (there were no other pearls during this period.)
Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
