Antique Georgian - early Victorian long necklace sautoir muff or guard chain. Gold plated. Made in England, United Kingdom circa 1805 - 1840.
Measurements: Weight is 64.3 grams. Length, not including the clasp is approximately 54.5inches (138.5cm).
Description : Each broad round link is faceted on the outside. Joined at right angles to one another. Very typical of Georgian long chains and very versatile and elegant. The perfect chain necklace to wear with a smart suit or a pair of jeans. Can be worn by a man. Easily goes around the head a few times.
A lobster clasp has been added to the chain, not to open or close the necklace but as a means of attaching a pendant or watch, if so required by the wearer. It dates to the Edwardian era and was possibly made by Isidore Klauber & Co - a business that was concerned with watch paraphernalia.
This sautoir or muff chain is immensely versatile and can be worn as a subtle accent to any outfit. Very well made.
Marks and Metal: As expected, there are no marks on the chain. The clasp, which is later, is engraved IK&C.
Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
