FUSET Art Deco earrings diamonds platinum pearls Barcelona, Spain c1930 (7463)
Art Deco earrings. Diamonds, platinum, white gold and pearls. Made in Barcelona, Spain, circa 1930. Made and signed by Fuset - a contemporary of Lluis Masriera (see below).
Measurements: Combined weight is 10.6 grams. Length approximately 7/8 inch (23mm). Pearls approximately 7.33mm each. Total diamond weight approximately 1.60ct. Note: antique diamonds do not conform to modern formulae, so the measurement is approximate and should be seen as a guide or suggestion of magnitude.
Description : Ultimate in elegance and workmanship: a gleaming white pearl (untested as natural or cultured) is surrounded on one side by a half circle of 5 diamonds - 3 round cut and two navette shaped. An undulating, second half of the circle, like a ribbon swirling in the wind is pave set with round-cut diamonds. It twists around itself and then continues to swoop up and back, forming a narrow point at the tip. Asymmetrical, yet perfectly balanced.
Sweeping movement leads the eye fully around the earlobe, onwards and up.
Fantastic combination of white metal (platinum), shimmering, gleaming diamonds and pearl, which anchors the whole.
Post with omega clasp.
Quality of workmanship, aesthetic design and colors are outstanding and classic. These earrings will always be fabulous and never go out of style.
Superb addition to elegant night attire. Can be worn to any social function, ball, opera or wedding.
Marks and Metal: J. Fuset marked on the back of the earrings. Earrings tested as platinum and omega clasp as white gold.
Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
THE STORY:
Not much has been written about Fuset Y Grau, an amazing jewellery manufacturer in Barcelona, Spain and contemporaries of Lluis Masriera.
Like Masriera, Fuset y Grau were fascinated by the medieval and Renaissance eras and made Revival jewelry in these styles, simultaneously reflecting the Art Nouveau movement and later Art Deco and other periods. Depending on the current partnerships, it was sometimes Fuset alone, sometimes with Grau and/or others. Like Masriera, many pieces are un-signed, but their style and quality are so distinctive that a signature is quite unnecessary to recognise their work.
We are fortunate that this pair of earrings is signed by Fuset (see above).
In 1925 Fuset y Grau were invited to participate in the Paris world fair, where they had much success. Following this, we have seen a shift by Fuset (sans Grau) towards the Art Deco style, as is the case of these earrings.
