Vintage Retro brooch. 18k gold, platinum, diamonds and a tiny ruby. Made in France, circa 1940's. Unisex - suitable to be worn by a woman or a man.
Measurements: Weight is 13.8 grams. Length approximately 3 1/2 inches (9.5cm)
Description : Exceptionally strong design and workmanship. An exotic bird, perhaps a long-tailed parrot, stretches out it's wings towards the heavens, the long, curving tail arcing down in a counter spiral. Curves of wing and tail echoed by the strong curved beak, forming a half-cicle with the top of the round head. A tiny colette-set ruby forms the eye. Wings with each feather individually formed, coming together in a flaming arc of diamonds set in platinum. The tail similarly highlighted with diamonds and platinum. Strong forms and strong contrast in bright yellow gold and gleaming white. Trombone clasp to hinged pin.
Versatile jewel can be worn on a shoulder, on a lapel, on a tie or scarf, hat or anywhere else. It could even be cleverly incorporated into a beautiful hairstyle.
Marks and Metal: Side of body with partly legible French maker's mark lozenge. Two more marks on the pin.
