Fish stick pin brooch gold platinum demantoid garnets ruby enamel Antique (7435)
Antique late Victorian / Art Nouveau stick pin. 14k yellow gold, platinum, demantoid garnets, enamel and a tiny ruby. Made late 19th - very early 20th century (circa 1895 - 1910). Unisex - Probably made for a man, but suitable for a man or a woman.
Measurements: Weight is 2.4 grams. Total length of pin is 2 1/2 inches (6.5cm). Fish is 7/8 inch (2.2cm) from end to end.
Description : A small stick pin, perfectly formed as a fish, the body arching and curving, possibly as it is pulled from the water or dives to the depths.
The body set with bright green, rare demantoid garnets and highlighted with gleaming enamel. The combination is a shimmering sense of movement. A gold twisted wire coils around the body of the fish. Eye is set with a tiny ruby.
Like most jewelry of the period, the back is gold, as is the pin. The front is platinum.
The demantoid garnets are a lovely bright shade and well-matched. Enamel ranges from yellow through orange.
Workmanship and materials are excellent.
Perfect gift for the angler - man or woman.
Marks and Metal: Metal was electronically tested as 14k gold and platinum. There is a tiny hallmark underneath, below the top/first demantoid garnet. It is not clearly legible - we have not managed to identify it as yet.
Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
