Antique Jugendstil Art Nouveau pendant on chain. 800 Silver and chrysoprase. Pendant made in Pforzheim, Germany circa 1910 - 1914 by Theodor Fahrner. The chain was made in Paris, France.
Measurements: Pendant measures just under 2 inches (48mm) long, not including the bale (loop). Chain measures approximately 19 1/2 inches (49.5cm). Combined weight is 12.8 grams.
Description: Naturalistically sculpted pendant with a grape and vine leaf theme. Scrolling tendrils surround modelled silver grapes and overlapping foliage, elongated and elegant in the Nouveau / Jugendstil style. Openwork tendrils highlight and enrich this effect. The approximate center of the pendant is set with a large, oval cabochon chrysoprase and another, smaller round one balances the composition on the upper right. Large, convenient bale.
A very similar but smaller pendant with less detail, is shown on page 145 of the book Theodor Fahrner Jewelry between Avantgarde and Tradition. Art Nouveau Art Deco The 1950s. By Ulrike von Hase-Schmundt , Christianne Weber and Ingeborg Becker.

The chain is sturdy with rectangular links. We bought this in Paris which explains the French chain - a later addition, kept for convenience of the buyer.
Marks: Engraved TF mark in a circle, used by Theodor Fahrner since about 1901. Partially legible 800 for the silver standard. The chain has French hallmarks including the Crab mark used in France to denote 800 silver 1838-1962.
Condition: very good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
