Vintage Antique Art Deco dog collar necklace. Natural pearls, old mine cut diamonds, onyx, 18k white gold. Made circa 1925 - 1930. Bought in Paris. Comes with B. Noury MAUBOUSSIN Sd 3 Rue de Choiseul Paris box as well as a very old note specifying number of pearls in the necklace.

Measurements: Smallest measurement is 12.5inches (32cm) (top of the neck); Bottom of necklace is 13 3/4 (35cm) long. From top of diamond bar to bottom of tassle is 3.5 inches (9cm). Width of collar is 3/4 inch (a little under 2cm). Weighs 25.4 grams (not including box or extra pearls).

Description: Made to sit on the front of the neck with the decorative front and tassle dropping below the nape of the neck. The necklace consists of 5 gradated rows of natural pearls. The shortest strand would sit on the upper, narrower portion of the neck and the longest strand at the bottom. There is a list with the total number of pearls in each strand (104, 98, 94, 89 respectively). Stations spaces a little under 1 inch apart consist of vertical rows of pearl flowers that reinforce and support the pearl strands. There are 14 such stations. The necklace opens in front, which is a great advantage in putting it on. The clasp is cleverly concealed in the line of diamonds that is set in the center of the neck. Beneath this line of diamonds is a bale, also set with diamonds that links to the beautiful Art Deco drop. The drop has a domed onyx surmount followed by a pagoda shaped, geometric design, minutely set with diamonds and onyx. Exquisite openwork and diamond settings in filigree. Below is a tassle formed by 6 hanging strands of pearls and onyx. Very flapper. Quality of the workmanship and artistic effort put into this necklace is seen in the back of the piece, with the beautiful, geometric openwork grid of white gold. There is a small bag with additional pearls which can be used to lengthen the necklace if so desired.

Marks: No marks were found, but gold was acid and electronically tested to ensure purity. The necklace comes in a box with the names Noury and Mauboussin at the address they were located during the 1920's in Paris. Noury was the original owner of Mauboussin, who was his nephew. Based on the box and fine workmanship, there is strong reason to attribute this necklace to Mauboussin despite the lack of Mauboussin signature on the necklace.

Condition: good with minor wear commensurate with age. Close inspection reveals a spot of onyx missing in the front of the necklace. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer. Independent Appraisal for $17900.00 available to new owner.
