Antique / vintage ring. Gold, ruby, turquoise. Made in India circa 1940 - 1960. Independent appraisal. Unisex - suitable for a man or a woman - was originally made for a man.
Measurements: Weight is 13.2 grams. US size 9. Length of bezel is 1 inch (2.5cm). Ruby 1.51ct.
Description : Very impressive, stunning ring. Large size was possibly made for a man wearing gloves and is large in measurements as well. The Mughals inherited a Persian love of scrolling botanical design and exquisite workmanship and this ring epitomises those features. Repousse gold work depicting flowers and foliage with moulded tiny architectural background/borders.
The arching continuous form centered with a cabochon ruby, held in a raised, crimped gold colette. Concentric gold rings surround the ruby, followed by a ring of kundan set turquoise, another feature very popular with Persians and Mughals. Turquoise cut as hearts and foliage, added another element of romance. Wonderful design with strong contrast between the beautiful blue of the turquoise and bright yellow of the gold.
Craftsmanship is fabulous and of the highest quality.
The repousse details goes all the way around the ring.
Marks and Metal: No marks. Gold was tested electronically and with acid. Acid tests as 18k. Electronic as higher, but we will guarrantee the 18k.
Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age and use. On either side, where the neighbouring fingers touch the ring, there is an indentation. These are not possible to correct because of the repousse work. They do not impacted the pattern. Other small dings are typical of soft, Indian gold. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
Note: ruby is more red in reality than purple, as seen in some of the pictures.
Independent appraisal available to new owner (value $10000.00)
