Antique Vintage Earrings 20-22k Gold Huge Hoops with Gold Baubles Indian (6465)

Antique Vintage earrings. 20-22k yellow gold. Made in Gujerat, India circa 1820-30's.

Measurements: Diameter is approximately 1 1/2 inch (40mm) (a tad under). Weigh 26.4 grams.

Description : Amazing, sculptural works of art worn in the ear lobes of Indian women a century ago. Turned-over sheets of gold with repousse decoration make up the basis of these enormous earrings. The turned over part and borders with fine repousse decoration. The rest of the circumference adorned with gold bubbles. The uppermost gold balls have granulation on their tips.

Since most modern women do not have enormously distended earlobes capable of holding these earrings as is, they have had tiny additions of gold wires that make them easy to insert in a modern pierced ear. This does not impinge on the integrity of the earrings.

Marks: No marks as is to be expected of earrings of this age. We acid tested the gold. It stays weakly for 22k, so we are more comfortable with 20k.

Condition: Due to age and wear, some of the gold beads are a little squished. This adds to their authenticity and barely reduces the aesthetic beauty of the earrings. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
