Antique Victorian ring. 9ct gold micro-mosaic. Roman Micromosaic; English goldsmith

Description : Sometimes the smallest item has the greatest interest. This small ring with an oval bezel set with a Roman micromosaic depicting a fly or similar flying insect. The traditional black outer frame with tiny tesserae in white with red rings forms an inner border. Within is a realistically depicted fly composed of multi-colored tesserae. The raised gold bezel with forked shoulders and simple gold shank. Unisex - suitable for a man or woman.

Marks and Metal: English hallmarks, reading left to right: partially legible maker's mark - seems to be C W S. 375 for 9ct gold (actually stays lightly for 14k when acid tested). The next mark is not clear. Followed by the Sheffield Crown and date letter 'g'.
