Antique Victorian ring. 14k gold, diamonds, Ceylong sapphire. Made circa 1890 - 1910. Believed to be European, but possibly English.
Independently appraised.

Measurements: Weight is 9.2 grams. 4.79ct sapphire. 2.27ct diamonds. US size 5.5.

Description : Oval, cornflower blue sapphire held in place by very fine gold claws. It is surrounded by concentric rows of Old European cut diamonds, set in silver. Rings like this were often known as Target or Bulls-eye rings and marguerite or daisy in French. A simple gold shank leads triple-forked (trifurcated) shoulders that are reminiscent of foliage. Diamonds are held aloft by a gallery of silver. At the time, diamonds were always set in silver to show them off to better effect in candle or gas light. The silver, as in this case, would be above a layer or mount of gold.
This ring was made to be very versatile. The entire bezel unscrews and was probably used to adorn another jewel such as a brooch or bangle or possibly to be replaced by another bezel on the ring.

Marks and Metal: Electronically tested as 14k gold.

Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
Independent appraisal (with value of US$20000.00) available to new owner.
