Antique Necklace. 18k yellow gold, diamonds and natural pearls. Made in France, circa 1870s.

Measurements: Approximate length is 16 1/4 inches (41cm). Drop is approx 4 1/2 inches (12cm). Weighs 83.2grams. Largest pearl approximately 8.0 mm.

Exquisite necklace en esclavage. Double finely linked chains in parallel from the back of the neck lead to a pair of medallions in openwork, scrolling gold that fall a little to the sides of the nape of the neck. An identical medallion forms the clasp. These fine medallions are centered with pearls surrounded by a ring of small rosecut diamonds, looking like dew drops around a flower. The floral them is continued with the golden patterns of the medallions. Between the medallions are 3 rows of double chains, each increasingly long and therefore falling lower below the neck in swags. Each is set with gold, diamond and pearl flowers, which continue all the way past the medallions to the clasp. (24 in all). The bottom 5 flowers have pearl and diamond drops. (total of 32 pearls). Workmanship and design are exquisite. The pearls are relatively large for natural pearls and extremely rare. Today, pearls of this nature are simply not to be found. A truly exeptional, luxurious and extremely beautiful necklace.

Marks: there are a number of hallmarks on the tongue of the clasp. These include two eagle head marks for 18k gold and a diamond-shaped lozenge, which is the maker's mark. Metal was tested to ensure purity.
