Antique Victorian Locket Pendant Gold Gilt-Silver Turquoise Pearls French (7008)
Antique Victorian Locket Pendant Gold Gilt-Silver Turquoise Pearls French (7008)
Antique Victorian pendant locket. Gold, silver gilt, turquoise, pearls. Made in France circa 1850 -70.
Measurements: Weight is 16.0 grams. Length, including bezel is 1 1/2 inches (4cm). Locket alone is a little over an inch (a little under 3cm) long.
Description : Oval in shape. Pave set on top and on the rounding curved of the sides with cabochon turquoise. In the center of the locket is a radiating, flower form with borders of gold. Within are small pearls. Front of bezel (loop) is pave set with turquoise to match the front of the locket. The back of the locket, in silver gilt, is engraved with initials of a previous owner. The superimposed, flowerly and curvaceous letters could read almost anything and we can regard them as an additional aesthetic feature. One side with little protruberances that allow us to open the locket quite easily. Gold/gilt lined, there is place for two portraits. A central section of glass in a golden border, separates the sides and holds a picture on one side in place. Long, sturdy hinge in good working order. A loop connects bezel and pendant. Very good workmanship.
Marks and Metal: Loop connecting bezel and locket with two swan marks for French silver. Back of bezel has a lozenge with a markers mark.
Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age and use. Some of the turquoise cabochones have become a little green over the years, which is perfectly normal for a turquoise of this age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
