Antique Victorian Earrings Gold Pearls Old Mine Cut Diamonds (7159)
Antique Victorian earrings. 12k gold, Old Mine Cut diamonds, pearls. Made in Italy, 19th century.
Measurements: Weight is 9.8 grams. Top to bottom measures 1 inch (2.5cm). Central pearls approximately 6-9mm in diameter. 1.14ct old mine cut diamonds.
Description : An impressive pair of earrings consisting of 5 pearls - a central slightly larger round pearl with another 4 pearls radiating to the cardinal points. Between the pearls are colette-set diamonds. Central pearl held in a mount with gold claws in ending in gold globules, much in immitation of a flower. The outer pearls are held by a gold stalk ending in a similar golden globule. Looking from the sides of the pearls, through the drill holes, we see the thickness of the nacre, so it is almost certain that these are natural pearls (no signs of inner beads), but they have not been tested as such. Posts with sturdy clasps are very likely later replacements. Earrings are very luxurious looking and clearly come from a wealthy home. As wearable today as they were well over 100 years ago and just as stunning.
Marks and Metal: No marks. Gold was both acid and electronically tested. In places it tests 12k and in places it tests 14k.
Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Tiny solder marks at the back where posts replaced original wires cannot be seen from the front. Some natural aging to pearls mentioned only for the sake of total accuracy. Please see description and enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
