Antique Victorian Earrings Ear Pendants 15k Gold Turquoise C1860 English (6114)
Antique Victorian earrings / ear pendants. 15k yellow gold and turquoise. Made in England, circa 1860.
Measurements: Length excluding the wires is 1 3/4 inches (just under 5cm). Combined weight 8.3 grams.
Surmounts in form of flowers entirely composed of cabochon turquoise gems. A loop suspends 3 components - forking twisted wires forming an inverted 'v' surrounding a drop of gradated turquoise cabochons and suspending another turquoise flower, larger than the one above. The bottom 3 'petals' of the flower suspend cabochon turquoise drops. All parts move independently of each other, drawing the eye and catching attention as the wearer moves. Simple gold wires make it easy to insert the earrings and comfortable to wear. Like many Victorian earrings, they are relatively light for their size, so they do not pull on the earlobe. Solid, English, Victorian workmanship with a wonderful combination of turquoise and gold that suits every complexion. The elongated design of the earrings adds to their elegance and beauty.
Marks: no marks, typical of Victorian English jewelry. Gold was acid tested to ensure metal purity.
Condition: good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Naturally, some of the turquoise has discolored with age, but this is normal and due to effects of temperature and humidity over more than 150 years.
