Antique Victorian Earrings Ear Pendants 14k Gold Long Dangling Revival (6692)

Antique Victorian earrings. 14k gold. Made circa 1860 - 1880. 

 

Measurements: 1 7/8 inches (4.75cm) long. Weight is 10.2 grams.

 

Description : Stunning looking earrings. A simple surmount suspends ovals that taper towards the top and broaden in width towards the bottom. Engraved patterns on bottom and golden globules on sides of oval hoops. Leaf-shaped fringes dangle from the bottom. A small gold loop/ring suspends a golden globe with bars on either side, from which, in turn are loops suspending golden rods terminating in golden cubes. Smaller cubes dangle on either side of a larger, central cube. This design is quite often to be found in Ancient Roman / Ancient Greek earrings and was used during the Classic Revival period of the Victorian era. Very strong design. Tremendous sense of movement with every section able to move independantly of the rest. Fabulous earrings like this are increasingly rare. They are easy to insert and comfortable to wear. Wires with simple c-clasps and gold surmount globes are almost certainly replacements.

 

Marks: As is to be expected of jewelry of this period, there are no marks on the earrings. Gold was tested to ensure metal purity.
