Antique Victorian Napoleon III earrings. 18k gold, diamonds, garnets, silver. Made in France circa 1870's.

Measurements: Weight is 3.5 grams. A little over 1.5cm long (excluding the wires). Description : Glowing, classically elegant small pair of earrings. Surmounts are a small diamond that serves the purpose of connecting the body of the earrings to the wires. The main part of the earrings are ovals with a proportionately large, deep red garnet in the center. These garnets are of a fabulous rich tone of red, gleaming like the most expensive ruby, luxurious and velvety in appearance. They are surrounded by a ring of simply faceted, rose-cut diamonds, set well back, contrasting and showing off the garnets to greater effect. Very classic and very French. The wires in two parts: the upper are thinner, easy to insert in the ear and comfortable to wear. The thicker, lower part clip over them and secure the earrings so that they do not fall off. Proportion, design and great workmanship is associated with French jewelry of this period of which these earrings are a wonderful example. Stunning despite their small size and as wonderfully wearable today as they were 150 years ago.

Marks and Metal: Behind the surmounts, the wires are hallmarked with French eagle for 18k and another mark - not quite legible and presumed to be a maker's mark.

Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
