Antique Victorian Etruscan Revival Earrings / Ear Pendants. 15ct gold. Made in the United Kingdom (England) circa 1860 - 1880.

Measurements: Weight is 5 grams. Length is a little over 2 inches (over 5cm).

Description : Long ear pendants in three sections. Beneath a gold half-globe is a v-shaped, flat surmount, like a Dutch gable with it's curves and scrolls, the entire upper surface very finely engraved with tightly scrolling ferns, which give a textured effect. The undulating outer borders of the surmounts have tiny gold granulated baubels that are almost indiscernable, but add another element of interest and quality. The middle section of the earrings are torpedo shaped - like elongated, narrow pears, tapering at the top and broadening to a full, round curve at the bottom. They are adorned with very fine filigree and granulation in the Etruscan Revival taste. Subtle, but very effective. The bottom consists of a fringe of articulated links that move in every section and are extended by long, thing pointed gold spokes. The tremendous movement allowed makes them almost lifelike. Every section is connected to the others by little rings, which allow them to move independently and swing and sway as the wearer moves. Like with most antique earrings, the wires are possibly replacements.

Beautiful, fine workmanship. Elegant and classic, these earrings are wonderfully understated beauty. Highly versatile and can be worn by all women for any occasion - from her jeans to the opera. The wires are easy to insert and comfortable to wear.

Marks and Metal: No marks, typical of jewellery of this period. Gold was acid tested to ensure metal purity. It stays for 14k and since the earrings are English, it is probably 15ct gold.

Condition: Good with minor wear/negligible dings on the backs, commensurate with age and use. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
