Antique Victorian brooch. 18k gold, 800 silver, diamonds. Made in France, 2nd half of 19th century. Unisex - Suitable for a man or a woman. Independent appraisal.
Measurements: Weight is 7.7 grams. 2.13ct rose cut diamonds.
Description : A pair of openwork palmettes point and arch outwards; joined by a cross section of round diamonds and a line of pave set diamonds in the center. Rose cut diamonds are gradated in geometric and partially naturalistic lines, curves and scrolls. As was the custom, diamonds were set in a layer of silver placed over the gold mount. This shows the gems off to best effect. They glint and gleam beautifully and it can only be imagined how lovely they looked in candle-light. An understated, classy jewel that will suit anyone, for any occasion.
Very well made, versatile and subtly draws the eye of the viewer to the shine of the diamonds.
Marks and Metal:c of clasp has two French hallmarks, one of which is the owl, denoting 18k gold, the other is not quite legible. A partial owl mark is also found on the pin.
Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
