Antique Victorian Bangle Bracelet 18k Gold Pearls French Napoleon III 19C (6417)

Antique Victorian Napoleon III bangle bracelet. 18k yellow gold and tiny natural pearls. Made in France 19th century.

Measurements: Gold band is approximately 5/8 inch (1.5cm) wide. Inner circumference is approximately 6 3/4 - 7 inches (17cm). Outer circumference is approximately 7 1/2 inches (19cm). Weighs 17.7 grams.

Description: From the days when women understood the enormously attractive powers of their arms and bangles were the most popular form of personal adornment. This bangle is a standout. A wide band of gold. The top wonderfully adorned with contrasting patterns and techniques. Sweeping swags demarkate areas with differing designs and patterns. Some areas with minutely bright cut engraving in the form of scales of a reptile - possibly mimmicking snake skin. Within the central arch of this surface pattern is an inset fleur de lis, minutely set with tiny pearls. The remaining areas are engraved with larger flowers and foliage, some of which are also set with pearls. Marvellous example of French workmanship and subtlety. This bangle can be worn with absolutely any outfit from jeans to a smart suite or to the opera.

Hinges and clasp are very finely made. The original tongue in groove clasp is in good shape and there is an additional safety catch that further indicates the value attributed to this lovely bangle. Hinges and clasp are very finely made. Marks: Two sets of French hallmarks on the tongue of the clasp. Each one with an eagle head for 18k gold and the Maker's mark lozenge with initials AG.

Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age: there are small dings natural due to wear, but these do not affect the visible appearance of the bangle and are mentioned for the sake of accuracy.
