Antique Victorian Art Nouveau French Ring 18k Gold Rubies Emeralds Diamond (7188)

Antique Art Nouveau late Victorian ring. 18k gold, platinum diamonds, emerald, rubies. Made in France circa 1895 - 1905.

Measurements: Weight is 4.3 grams. US ring size 6.

Description : Charming and elegant and very, very French. This lovely ring with swirls of foliage, berries and flowers, all gemset in an unusual openwork design within a navette (boat shape) mount, held aloft by a trellis gallery of gold and with diamond set shoulders. The center is a flower with an emerald middle, radiating ruby and diamond petals. The long ends of the navette contain leaves that fit the design perfectly and inbetween are little diamond berries. Like almost all antique jewelry, gold was the metal used for most of the mount, while platinum was used in the section holding the gems. This was considered advantageous for viewing the gems in gas/candle light. Utterly charming, versatile and wearable.

Marks and Metal: Hallmarks on the outside of the shank. Gold and platinum were electronically tested to ensure metal purity.
