Antique Signed Wiese Ring Neo Renaissance 18k Gold Turquoise Figural (6085)
Measurements: Just under a US size 4. Weighs 3.60 grams.
Small ring. The bezel is a cabochon turquoise held in silver claws. The shoulders and shank are exceptional. They take the form of a pair of caryatids, the upper part human women and part mythological figures that supported buildings in ancient Greece. Instead of arms, the figures have scrolls that join up with the bezel. Large, full breasts and belly. Hair piled on the head in Victorian more than Greek style. Instead of legs, like mermaids, the lower part of the figures are in the form of foliage. Both Jules and Louis Wiese were famous for the exceptional beauty of their designs and the quality of their workmanship that won them first prize in many of the French exhibitions of the 19th century.
Marks: there are two hallmarks on the outside of the shank. The rectangular mark is not legibile, but is most likely the mark of Louis Wiese. Inside the shank is also marked with the WIESE mark.
Condition: good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged 'photos and do not hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
