Antique Russian Nouveau Ring Demantoid Garnet Spinel 14k Gold (6717)
Measurements: Weight is 3.4 grams. Spinel 0.27ct. US size 5.
Description : A simple slightly pink gold band crossing over the finger in a pair of contrasting scrolls, seperated by a double wedge of demantoid garnets. The scrolls are assymmetrical, but balanced, typical of the Art Nouveau period. The outer side of one scroll is set with the 3 largest demantoids and the inner side a knife-edge swirl of gold. The opposite scroll's inner swirl is set with smaller demantoids and the apex of the scroll is set with a bright pink-red spinel. The outer edge of this side is a knife-edge band. The scrolls are clever reverse images of one another, with opposite features. The single bright spinel balancing the contrasting greens of the demantoids.
The design is very clever and has a lyrical, musical quality in addition. Typical of the Art Nouveau elongated, elegant sensibility.
