Antique Micromosaic ring. 14k gold and tesserae. Made in Italy, probably late 19th century, but date of micro mosaic could be significantly earlier.

Measurements: Weight is 6.6 grams. US size 7.5 Diameter of bezel is 1.2cm (11/16th inch).

Description : Unusual portrait of a woman, composed entirely of tiny slithers of glass, called tesserae, that constitute Roman micro mosaics (or micro mosaics). Bezel is perfectly round. The outer border of the circumference is in white and red tesserae. Within is a pale blue ground with a portrait of a Classical Roman woman, seen just off the profile. Her hair in a bun adorned with foliage. Red dress with pink and cream band near the top. The subject matter for micro mosaic is quite unusual and rare. Unisex - the ring is suitable for anyone and makes a fascinating conversation-piece. Wearable history.

Marks and Metal: No marks. Gold was acid tested.

Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
