Antique ring for man or woman. Over 20k gold, turquoise, gems and enamel. Made in Rajastan, India, 19th century.

Measurements: Weight is 3.9 grams. Us size 8.

Description : There is a lot going on in this very well made and well designed ring. The gently 4-lobed bezel (top) of the ring is divided into 4 cells with golden walls. Within are cabochon gems and in the center, a small cabochon turquoise. We tested the gems and they appear to be pale amethysts. On either side of the bezel, on the top of the shoulders, are similar, raised cells of raindrop or pear form, also containing the same near-colorless gems. The sides of the golden walls of the cells are enamelled in green. Further down the shoulders are raised gold ribbons forming a double-scrolled shape that has special meaning or symbolism in Indian mythology. The shank is further decorated with red, white, blue and green enamel in a design typical of the area and period. The inside of the bezel and shoulders are also enamelled, which is a particularly luxurious feature and typical of good, antique Indian jewelry.

Suitable for wear by either a man or a woman. Wonderful, busy design that speaks of the energy, color and wit of India and in particular, the art of Rajastan. Looks great on the finger and is a wonderful addition for a collector of this rare jewelry as well as being highly wearable and attractive.

Marks and Metal: Indian jewelry of this age was never hallmarked. We acid tested the gold, which stays for a little under 22k (20k to be sure).

Condition: Minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
