Antique Necklace Earrings Set Gold Diamond Ruby Spinel Silver Anglo Indian(6490)

Antique Necklace and earrings set. 20k yellow gold and silver set with a variety of diamonds, rubies, spinels. Made in India 19th century.

Measurements: Necklace is 4 inches (10cm) wide and 3 inches (8cm) top to bottom drop. Earrings are a little under 2inches (4.75cm) long. Total weight 49.5 grams. Description :

Extraordinary set: parts are made of silver over gold with gold detail and set throughout with pink gems. The upper sections are in the form of beautiful pansies with descending cascades of foliage tapering to a single ruby bead drop. Parts are articulated so that they bend , but are so closely connected that the joints are all but invisible. The workmanship is breath-taking. Centers of pansies are oval rubies, kundan set in gold. Above them are bows set with diamonds, typical of the Victorian taste. The entire design combines both Indian and Western features and is a masterpiece of both. There are gold rings on the sides of the necklace. These can be connected to a gold chain or a simple ribbon, according to the needs and taste of the wearer. Gems are somewhat mixed, typical of old Indian jewelry. Most of the pink stones test as rubies, but some appear to be spinels.

Marks: No marks as is to be expected of antique jewelry. We acid tested the gold.
