Antique Jewelry Set Earrings Brooch-Pendant Gold Natural Pearls Bridal (7155)
Antique Victorian parure jewelry set consisting of dangle drop earrings and brooch/pendant. High carat gold (see below) and small natural seed pearls. Made in Southern Italy, 19th century. Bridal jewelry.
Measurements: Weight is 16.6 grams. Width of brooch 6cm. Length of earrings is 4cm.
Description : Typical of southern Italy and especially Sicily, the set is beautifully made and highly versatile for any wearer today, in particular, suitable for a bride. Earrings consist of two parts that easily seperate by simply slipping the bottom off the surmounts. This was called 'Top Drop' or 'Day Night' jewelry - it could be worn more simply with top only by day or, more elaborately with top and drop, by for more elegant occasions. Strong floral theme. The surmounts consist of a golden globe surrounded by gold wirework forming a flower amidst a pair of elongated leaves, entirely set with small pearls. Wires are easy to insert and comfortable to wear with c-hooks to further secure them. A loop connects the drops to the wires of the top. Drops in the form of flowers, also richly set with pearls, another, smaller, pearl-set flower in the raised centers. Drops swing and sway freely as the wearer moves. Brooch or pendant is large, but very delicately designed. Large leaves surround a central big flower of different levels, rising well above the surface. Smaller flowers like brides-maids on golden stalks beneath it. Filigree buds and golden globules connect the leaves. A swinging wreath of flowers and fringes adds depth and a lot more interest and movement. The back has a hinged pin with c-clasp and the wires supply varied options for using as a pendant. Simple wires, hidden mainly in the back, help to hold the pearls in place. Extremely fine workmanship. Very delicate, feminine adornment.
Marks and Metal: No marks, typical of jewelry of this age. Gold was acid tested as at least 22k.
Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
