Antique Georgian 18K gold and Wedgwood tricolor jasperware brooch. Made in England. Circa 1820's.

Measurements: Rectangular plaque is 2 3/4 inches long X approx 7/8 inches wide; rounder plaque is a little over 1 inch (1 1/16th) across. Weighs 18.5grams.

Brooch consists of two parts, a longer, rectangular plaque and a suspended octagonal plaque. The plaques were made by the Wedgwood factory. Exact dating is not possible, but according to the mark under the WEDGWOOD impression, we believe they could date to the 1820's, when these impressed potter's marks were used (according to Robin Reilly in his book on Wedgwood). The oblong plaque in green, blue and white, with canted corners, depicts a mythological scene with sea gods, horses, dolphins, and cherubs. Surrounded by tiny, fine flowers in a delicate border.  The gold mount consists of a simple colette mount with two fine bands of twisted rope in gold beneath it. A gold bead separates the two plaques. Simple C-clasp.

Gold is not marked, but tests for 18carats. Upper plaque has impressed WEDGWOOD mark as well as another mark, that could be an impressed potter's mark.

Good condition.
