Antique Georgian Victorian Earrings Diamonds Gold Silver Long w Appraisal (6686)
Antique Georgian Victorian Earrings Diamonds Gold Silver Long w Appraisal (6686)
Antique Georgian / Victorian earrings long ear pendants. 14k Gold, silver and Old Mine Cut diamonds. Believed to date to early 19th century with later screw-back fitting.
Measurements: Approximately 1 3/8 inches (6.5cm) long. Weight is 13.0 grams. Professional, independant appraisal of diamonds: 4.04ct.
Description : Like all good antique jewelry, the metal is gold at the back and silver on top, in order to show the diamonds off to best advantage in the candle or gas light of the period. Collette settings hold the Old Mine Cut, square-ish shaped diamonds, lovely cushion cuts, fat and lushious, typical of the Georgian era. The surmounts are flowers, what the French call 'Marguerite', which suspend a long, long line of articulated diamonds, that give a lot of movement and flexibility to the earrings. These descend to a more spacious line of diamonds surrounded by openwork scrolls in a stylised flower form, highlighted with smaller diamonds. It is extremely rare to find an original pair of earrings from this period as most were broken into constituent parts for use in other jewelry. We can forgive the replacement of the fitting for the more modern late Victorian / Edwardian woman who did not have pierced ears. This can easily be re-converted to a post or wire by a future owner.
Marks: No marks as is to be expected. Gold was tested to ensure purity.
Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer. Independent appraisal available to new owner upon request.
