Antique George IV Vinaigrette. Gilt sterling silver. Made Birmingham, 1826, possibly by Thomas Simpson Jr. 

Measurements: Approx 29.5mm long; 20mm wide. Weighs 13.6grams. 

Rectangular vinaigrette with rounded corners. Strong, sturdy hinge along the back; thumbpiece on front; gap to accommodate finger to open grill on the side. Top of lid is beautifully engraved with a flowers and foliage around an oval reserve. Monogram G.D. within the reserve. Bright cut engraved borders. Bottom / underneath has bright-cut engraved composite leaf or branch with foliage - simple and elegant. Very fine, delicate engraving, typical of the Georgian era.

The inside is all gilt washed. Beautiful grille with elaborate scrolling pierced openwork. A central flower medallion surrounded by scrolls and foliage in a rich, rococo pattern. Exquisitely done. 

Marks: The inside of the upper lid with hallmarks showing George IV, Makers mark TS for Thomas Simpson Jr and lion passant for sterling silver standard. Bottom has anchor for Birmingham, TS and date letter 'C'. 

Condition: good with minor wear commensurate with age. No damage of any sort was found.
