Antique Georgian Ring Religion Reliquary Gold Black Enamel Diamond Cross (6393)

Antique mourning ring Georgian or earlier religious reliquary. 18k yellow gold, black enamel and rosecut diamonds. Made in France. Exact date unknown. Suitable for a man or woman.

Measurements: US size 6.5. Weighs 6.3 grams. Can be resized.

Description : Reliquary or container for a sacred remnant in the form of a ring. Shapeded like an oval signet ring, the bezel sloping directly down at the sides. The bezel with a little compartment at the back. Amazingly fine construction to the hinge that opens and closes the door. The bezel (top) of the ring and shoulders have a black enamel design of foliage and trailing vines. This would have had some symbolism hundreds of years ago. In the center of the bezel is a cross, outlined in black enamel and very finely pave set with diamonds. Design is very beautiful. Workmanship is exquisite. Highly wearable. A great addition to a collection of mourning jewelry.

Marks: Any marks that existed have been worn. I acid tested the gold to ensure metal purity.
