Antique Georgian Aristocratic Duke fob pendant seal. Gold (see below), chalcedony cameo. Made in Great Britain, early 19th century.
Made for a man, but can be used by a man or woman.

Measurements: Weight is 7.9 grams. 1 1/4 inches (3cm) long.

Description : Georgian fob and seal that can be worn as a pendant or a charm, hanging from a chain. Shaped somewhat like a lyre, with the main body in the form of a pair of scrolls, each the mirror image of the other, facing inwards. The widest part of the scrolls, near the bottom, is embossed with a pair of daisy-like flowers - raised and modelled above the surface. Between them, is suspended a 3rd flower, a tad larger, of almost identical design. Working their way up the scrolls, are embossed leaves. The whole forms a scrolling semi circle. A large bale (loop) of red gold enables the fob to be used on a watch chain, a necklace chain or a wrist chain. A ribbon can also be threaded through the loop.
The loop and gold holding the hardstone, white chalcedony seal are more red than the main body of yellow gold, which was intentional and adds to visual interest.
The seal, hand carved cameo or intaglio is the coat of arms of a Duke. This is indicated by the coronet, upon which is a hunting dog, possibly a greyhound. Superb, fine detail to dog and crown. They are placed above interlaced initials CC.
The fob is identical in the front and the back.

Marks and Metal: No marks, as is to be expected from this period. We tested the gold electronically, and like much Georgian jewelry, we got different readings, depending on where we tested. Most of the gold tested as 18k, but some of the gold holding the hard stone tested as 14k.

Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
