Antique Georgian First Empire Napoleon I day night earrings / ear pendants. 18k gold and coral. Made in Paris, France, 1809 - 1819.
Measurements: a little under 5cm in length. Weigh 4 grams. Note: ruler in picture is in inches. Day / Night earrings - can be separated into the two constituent parts. The upper part, surmount goes through the ear from the back, typical of French earrings of this period. Very finely faceted coral beads are mounted in gold filigree, reminiscent of the Ancient Romans / Classic period and showing the current French passion for the Classics. Starburst shape. A triangular gold wire loop suspends a similar round drop with a swinging line of coral in its center. Coral has retained a lovely deep orange color and evenness of tone. Great workmanship and design. Comfortable to wear due to the light weight.
Marks: each earring is marked on the wire with the Coq mark - chicken head facing left, used 1809-1819, Paris, to denote 18k gold.
Condition: These earrings are in unusually good condition especially when considering Their age and delicate construction. Minor wear commensurate with age.
