Antique Georgian Earrings 15ct Gold Cannetille Amethyst Long Ear Pendants (6712)

Antique Georgian earrings ear pendants. 15ct yellow gold and amethysts. Made in England, circa 1820.

 

Measurements: Length, not including wires is just under 2 1/4 inches (5.5cm). Combined weight is 5.1 grams.

 

Description : Long, long earrings. Made of finest gold, spun like lace. The surmounts are in the form of flowers, golden globules in the center and each petal bordered by minute beaded filigree work. A loop connects the small surmounts to the very long drop, which swing and sway as the wearer moves. They are more or less tear-shaped, with a high waist and dips towards the bottom. Gold scrolling ribbons are super fine with highlights of golden globules that almost seem to tinkle. Extremely delicate airy openwork so that the gold appears to float. In the center is a relatively large amethyst set in gold. Contrast between the gleaming gem and the glowing gold with the solidity of the former and apparrent weightless airiness of the latter.

 

Wires are almost certainly replacements but are easy to insert and comfortable to wear.

 

Marks and Metal: As is to be expected of jewelry of this period, there are no marks on the earrings.

 

Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Gold a little darkened in some areas shown magnified in 'photos, but not noticeable in reality. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
