Antique Georgian Brooch Pendant Gold Diamonds Floral En Tremblant (6936)
Antique Georgian Brooch Pendant Gold Diamonds Floral En Tremblant (6936)
Antique Georgian brooch. 14k gold and diamonds. Made 18th-19th century.
Approximately 4ct rosecut diamonds. Measurements: Weight is 43.7 grams. Length 3 1/2 inches (9cm); width 1 1/4 inches (4cm).
Description : Floral, botanical themed brooch. A curving stem with exuberant foliage and a large flower, possibly of the convolvulus family, such as a Morning Glory. The section holding the large flower is a narrow ribbon of gold that has the ability to move gently. Two of the diamonds are held aloft in a raised gallery of gold, the rest of the hundreds of diamonds are collette-set in gold. Fascinating contrast between different forms of metal work, relief subtle play of height and variety of setting. Details of the construction, as seen at the back, hint that the elements of the brooch/pendant once dissembled and were possibly used as elements in a tiara or other form of jewelry as well as a brooch-pendant. Currently, the form is not alterable. C-clasp, typical of the period. A loop allows the jewel to be hung on a chain and worn as a pendant.
