Antique Georgian Bracelet 14k Gold Pearls Hair Sentimental Memorial Romance(4767
Antique Georgian - Early Victorian Bracelet. Gold, Pearls and Hair. English circa 1795 - 1830's.
Approx. 17cm (6 3/4inches) long. Weighs 11.3 grams.
Gold unmarked, acid tests for 14k.
The top of the bracelet is a rounded oval. Natural half-pearls set in a scalloped filigree gold border, give a daisy-like appearance. A triple gold frame within, each of a different design and texture in gold, contains a braid of fair hair under convex glass. The back is closed in typical Georgian fashion, with an arching concave plate of gold. Supported by gold plates are a series of 4 gold chains surrounding the wrist/arm. Secure clasp as well as safety chain. Bracelets like this were worn during the 19th century with hair being tokens of loved ones, whether living or not. They might have been given as a gift of love, romance and friendship, for a mother to feel close to her family or to remember a loved one passed on. This was one of my own first purchases of antique jewelry, loved and worn and not for sale for many years. It's simplicity makes it very versatile and it can be worn with absolutely any outfit.
No hallmarks, but gold was acid tested. Good, original condition.
