Antique Art Nouveau Bangle Bracelet Gold Diamond Gem American Indian French(7001
Antique Art Nouveau Bangle bracelet. 18k yellow gold, rosecut diamonds, rubies and emeralds. Made in France, circa 1910. Can be worn by a man or a woman.
Measurements: Weight is 22.2 grams. Inner diameter approximately 2 1/2 inche (6.5cm).
Description : A daring tubular bangle free of any adornment leads to terminals in the form of Native American / American Indian heads, mainly seen in profile. Fantastically and naturalistically modelled, they reflect the French preoccupation with the exotic during the time of the Art Nouveau period. They admired Native Americans as extremely exotic, evidenced by a fair amount of Art Nouveau art with this subject matter. Powerful masculine faces with feathered head-dresses, partially engraved and partially set with gems, including diamonds, rubies and emeralds. While many portraits in Art Nouveau jewelry depict faces with introspective or impassive expressions, these faces are unusually fierce and powerful. Details are superb. Workmanship is superb. Artistry and design are superb. Shows French workmanship and imagination of the period at its very best. A rare and wonderful bangle, as wearable today as it was over 100 years ago.
Marks and Metal: French eagle head for 18k gold jewelry made in France. A maker's mark lozenge. The word DEPOSE (which is the French equivalent of a patent mark).
Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
