Antique French Georgian Ring Giardinetto 18k Gold Turquoise Diamonds Gems (7182)
Antique Georgian / Louis XV ring. 18k gold, diamonds, emerald, spinel/ruby, turquoise. Made in France circa 1740-1760.
Measurements: Weight is 1.9 grams. US size 7.
Description : Small ring with a lot of eye-appeal. Like its name suggests, giardinetti rings were rings in the form of vases of flowers, popular in the 18th century. This one probably dates to the earlier period of this fashion, as the delicacy of the workmanship suggests older jewelry. It consists of a gold 'vase' on a stand, with engraved cross-hatching. From this branch a number of curving stems, each ending in a flower or bud and each flower or bud set with various gemstones - too small to have any value in themselves, but together, making a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Gems include turquoise, diamonds, emerald and either spinels or rubies (test is inconclusive). Gems are all closed at the back, which is the way they were set at that time. Very simple gold shank.
Marks and Metal: As is to be expected of a ring from this period, there are no hallmarks. Gold was electronically tested to ensure purity.
Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
