Antique French Dog Brooch Diamonds 18K Gold Silver Ruby Dog at Play (6996)
Antique Victorian Napoleon III brooch. 18k gold, silver, diamonds, ruby. Made in France, circa 1880. Independent appraisal.
Measurements: Approximately 2 inches long. Weight is 10.2 grams. 1.80ct diamonds.
Description : Naturalistically modelled as a dog. Very playful, we can see by his body language that he is telling his master or mistress that he wants to go walkies or play tug o' war. The forward crouching pose is a sign that the dog wants to play and the artist jeweller has caught this perfectly. His lead is in his mouth. It is made of 18k gold and is movable. It's as though we are being called to pull on the handle and play with our pet. Realistically modelled gold collar around his neck. The entire body is beautifully pave set with diamonds. As was the custom during this period, diamonds were set in silver. Details is lovely, from his upturned nose to each toe of his paws and wagging tail. Quality of workmanship is very good. One ruby eye seems to be looking at us and challenging us to come and play. It's as though he is saying, 'just come and take this lead from my mouth' and 'let's go for a walk'. Pin and c-clasp.
Marks and Metal: The gold pin at the back is hallmarked with a maker's mark lozenge J? French eagle head mark indicates 18k gold. The tail has engraved 2559.
Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer. Independent appraisal available to new owner.
