Antique French Art Deco Beaded Sautoir - long Necklace (4627)
Antique French Art Deco Beaded Sautoir - long Necklace (4627)
Antique Art Deco sautoir / long necklace. Made in France, circa 1920's.
19 1/2 inches long (doubled).
Classic Art Deco sautoir, long necklace, worn around the neck, across the shoulders or any other variation of the flapper era. Made of tiny beads and combining simple black faceted strands in 5 parallel lines, with tightly threaded panels on silver bead grounds. Panels with red and green flowers/foliage and a beautiful blue bird on the largest, bottom panel. The bottom panel with looped fringe in an exquisite delicate violet/pink with red and black detail to pick up the colors of the rest of the beads. The beads themselves are faceted in order to catch and reflect light and are of a superior quality. The artwork is beautiful and the color combination highly desirable and wearable. This is a great instance of an antique jewel retaining its Wow appeal over 100 years.
Good, original condition. Page 190 of The Antique Trader Jewelry Price Guide 2nd Edition shows a very similar sautoir in more muted colors - very possibly made by the same hand.
