Antique Victorian Etruscan Revival bangle bracelet. 14k yellow gold and diamonds. Made late 19th century, most likely in the USA.

Measurements: Weight is 22.4 grams. Diamonds are approximately 0.40ct and 0.35ct respectively.

Description : Tubular gold body with a hinge at the back to facilitate opening and closing. The adornment begins from the shoulders with applied filigree work in patterns of loops and beading of different shapes and sizes. The cylindrical/tubular forms scroll around on the top of the bangle, conforming to the upper part of the arm. Within the U-turn of the scrolls is a beautifully modelled shell, the fluted inner and upper surface with tiny beaded borders containing granulation of various sizes and set in the center with a raised diamond. The diamonds are lifted aloft by high prongs, like an aquaduct and emerge from the scallope shells much like Botticelli's Birth of Venus. An 8-shaped clasp holds the bangle securely on the wrist. Workmanship is beautiful and everything the Neo Etruscan jewellers such as Pio Castellani were looking for in re-creating jewelry with the fine techniques of ancient civilisations. The subject and theme also echo centuries of the past in Italy. The bangle is highly wearable and versatile and will bring as much pleasure to its new owner as it did almost 150 years ago.

Marks and Metal: Sleeve over the inside of the hinge is engraved 14k.

Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
