Antique early 20th century aigrette tiara - Edwardian / Belle Epoque / Art Deco era circa 1910 - 1925. 15ct gold, diamonds, black and white feathers. Possibly made in the United Kingdom or United States.

Measurements: Weight is 8.5 grams (weighed with black feather only). From hinge to top diamond is 4 1/4 inches (10.5cm). Widest part approximately 3 3/4 inches (10cm). Diamonds approximately 0.10ct each. Old European Cut.

Description : Interchangeable aigrette to suit your outfit. Feathers are pitch black and a pure white. Feathers would bob and move with every breath of the wearer or whisper of a breeze. They stand behind an aigrette shaped design of 5 fanning lines of gold, each ending in a small diamond. Old European cut diamonds were used with gas/candle light in mind and have a very special charm. The feathers and diamonds are set above a tubular solid gold wire that arches around the hairdo or head of the wearer. It has loops at the terminals so that you can attach it to a ribbon to secure it in place. The feathery part of the aigrette is connected to the base via a very solid hinge that allows it to be angled any way the wearer wishes. The effect of the gently moving feather behind the diamonds and gold is spectacular and the whole is beautifully elegant. Amazingly wearable today.

Marks and Metal: No marks found. We acid tested the gold, which stays lightly for 18k and very strong for 15k so we believe it is 15k.

Condition: Very Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Hard to believe this aigrette is over 100 years old. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
