Antique Earrings Gold Turquoise Hoops Victorian Italian Classic Revival (6240)
Antique Victorian Etruscan Revival Neo Classic Earrings. 14k yellow gold and turquoise. Made in Italy circa 1860-80.
Measurements: Weigh 12.65 grams. Approximately 1 3/8 inches (3.5cm) long, not including the wires.
Description: Filigree rope twist and gold granulated beading with gold bead accents, these earrings were made at the height of the Archaeological Revival or Neo Classic era, when the French, Italians and English were ecstatically emulating the Ancient Greeks, Romans and Etruscans. Simple wires - easy to insert and comfortable to wear lead to an elongated oval loop, encrusted with filigree wirework and granulation and set with turquoise that is beautifully contrasted by the bright yellow gold. An outer hoop swings within this oval and is decorated in the same vein. Another, simple ring swings within the decorative hoop and it in turn encloses a large gold bead. Smaller gold beads / granulation adorn the outer hoop. These earrings are as fabulous today as they were 150 years ago. They are suitable to wear by day or night and with any outfit from faded jeans to a smart suit.
Marks: No marks. Gold was acid tested to ensure metal purity.
Condition: good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
