Antique earrings. Gold. Rubies, pearls. Made in South India, 18th - 19th century. Independent appraisal.
Measurements: Weight is 7.0 grams. Diameter 1.6cm. 1.12ct rubies.
Description : Flower form earrings. Central cabochon rubies in a crimped cabochon kundan setting. Surrounded by pearl petals in a gold mount with fine granulation and detail.
Pearls untested, but very likely natural Basra pearls. Rubies have variation in color, (see pictures), but both tested professionally as rubies.
Pearls and rubies glow as the light catches them and beautifully offset by the bright yellow gold mount.
Posts have recently been altered to facilitate the smaller holes in the lobes of modern women.
Fine workmanship. Very elegant, with a great gleam. Pretty and wearable.
We are showing a pair of earrings of similar design from the 18th century. They were sold at Christies, June 2019 as part of their Maharajas & Mughal Magnificence auction.
Marks and Metal: Gold was acid tested as at least 14k - probably higher, but we will guarantee 14k.
Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
Independent appraisal available to new owner.
