Antique Victorian ring. 18k yellow gold, diamonds. Made circa 1840-50 in France. Unisex - for man or woman.
Measurements: Weight is 6.4 grams. Diameter of bezel is 12mm. US size 7.75 - can be resized.
Description : The bezel consists of a round disk, entirely pave set with diamonds. It is supported by an openwork gallery of looping gold prongs. This in turn is raised above a mount of openwork gold scrolls - beautifully made and allowing light to enter from behind the diamonds, adding to shine and brightness.
Lovely gold shoulders with beaded borders and engraved design on the sides. Shield shape - the bezel appears to float above them. Shoulders lead to simple gold shank.
Twinkling, bright diamonds that continuously catch the eye as the light jumps from gem to gem and facet to facet.
While the ring can equally be worn by a man or a woman, the 'feel' of it in size and design, is that it was originally made for a man. The shield/badge shaped shoulders add to the strong design. Today, it would make a great ring for either gender and looks absolutely fabulous on the finger.
Marks and Metal: French eagle mark on outside of shank (for 18k gold).
Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
Professional, independent gemological appraisal.
